In the fall of 1969, a small group of Spirit Baptized believers first met to pray and seek direction in starting a Full Gospel Church. At the time, a great hunger and thirst for righteousness prevailed among the people as the Holy Spirit moved rapidly throughout the area. The great movement, called the Charismatic Renewal, had begun to reach central West Virginia as people from various denominations became receptive to the Full Gospel Message. As this small group of earnest believers began to meet for prayer, they felt led by the Holy Spirit to organize a local church and call it Faith Assembly.
The original board members of Faith Assembly were: Arden Browning, Norval Davis, Tony Gianettino, Ray Hall, and Ralph Weekley.
For a while, they met in homes, but the group began to grow. Soon they reached 25-30 individuals, and they felt a need to seek a larger meeting place.
The first meeting place was the United Mine Workers Union Hall at Gore, located on Rt. 19 North of Clarksburg. The first ministers rose from the brethren. First, Roger Marra and then Ernie Smith. These ministers saw the church through its early months and moved on to become ordained ministers to other congregations in the years since.
In 1969, the first revival meeting was held with Rev. Larry Parker of Elmira, NY as the speaker. The Spirit of God moved mightily in those days, and Rev. Parker was asked to become the pastor of Faith Assembly.
By the summer of 1970, the congregation had grown to the point that the Union Hall was no longer adequate for the ministry. The Lord directed the church to purchase a church building at 644 Washington Ave., Clarksburg. On August 23, 1970, the congregation moved into their new location.
From the fall of 1970 to the spring of 1974, the ministry of Faith Assembly became established in faith and commitment. Many souls were touched by Jesus Christ. Under the pastorate of Rev. Larry Parker, many people were taught and established in the faith.
Rev. Parker remained the pastor until June 1974. About this time, the Charismatic Renewal was in full swing in the area, as several new ministries were rising up. In addition to Faith Assembly, there existed the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship, the Clarksburg Mission, and Christian Television, Channel 46 WLYJ. These ministries worked together and good works were accomplished.
In 1978, the property on Rt. 20 was purchased and the current facility built. The Lord has continued to lead, and Faith Christian Fellowship looks forward to many years of service in the Kingdom.
